Cozy Iced Apple Cider Chai Latte

iced apple cider chai latte - featured image

A quick and cozy 5-minute iced latte made by steeping chai tea in warm apple cider, then pouring it over ice with cold milk for a refreshing, spiced drink.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup apple cider (100% juice or fresh cider)
  • 2 black chai tea bags
  • 1/2 cup milk (dairy, oat, almond, or coconut)
  • Ice cubes
  • Pinch of cinnamon (optional)
  • Teaspoon of honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)

Instructions

  1. Pour 1 cup of apple cider into a small saucepan and warm over medium heat until steaming, but do not boil (3-4 minutes).
  2. Remove from heat and add 2 chai tea bags (and optional spices). Stir to submerge.
  3. Steep the tea for 5-7 minutes until the liquid is deep amber.
  4. Remove tea bags and squeeze gently to extract flavor. Strain if loose spices were used.
  5. Let the spiced cider cool to room temperature (can speed up by placing saucepan in cold water).
  6. Fill a tall glass to the top with ice cubes.
  7. Pour the cooled spiced cider over the ice.
  8. Slowly pour cold milk over the top for a layered effect.
  9. Stir well to combine and serve immediately.

Notes

Do not boil the cider as it can make the flavor syrupy. Use cold milk to prevent the ice from melting too quickly. Steep the tea longer than usual for hot tea to compensate for flavor muting in the cold drink. Can be made ahead by storing the spiced cider concentrate in the fridge for up to 3 days.
