Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (or brown sugar)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (or almond flour for gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, cloves)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mash bananas until smooth but slightly chunky. Stir in pumpkin puree, melted butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until combined and glossy.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and pumpkin pie spice.
  4. Gradually fold dry ingredients into wet mixture using a rubber spatula until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. In another bowl, beat softened cream cheese with sugar, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  6. Pour half of the banana bread batter into the loaf pan. Dollop cream cheese mixture over the batter, then pour remaining batter on top. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the cream cheese into the batter.
  7. Bake for 55-65 minutes, checking at 55 minutes with a toothpick; it should come out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs. Tent with foil if top browns too quickly.
  8. Cool bread in pan for 15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Use very ripe bananas for best sweetness. Do not overmix batter to keep bread tender. Soften cream cheese to avoid lumps in the swirl. Tent with foil if bread browns too fast. Optional: add chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch. For dairy-free, substitute cream cheese and butter with plant-based alternatives.
