A quick and easy homemade popcorn snack coated with flavorful everything bagel seasoning for a crispy, savory treat perfect for movie nights or casual snacking.

  • 1/2 cup popcorn kernels (about 100g)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning blend (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of black pepper (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese, finely grated (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive or avocado oil in a heavy-bottomed pot over medium heat until shimmering but not smoking, about 1 minute.
  2. Test the oil temperature by dropping 2 or 3 popcorn kernels into the oil; when they pop, the oil is ready.
  3. Add 1/2 cup popcorn kernels to the pot and cover with a lid. Shake gently to coat kernels evenly with oil.
  4. Keep the pot over medium heat. Kernels will start popping vigorously in 2-3 minutes. Shake the pot occasionally to prevent burning and help unpopped kernels fall to the bottom.
  5. When popping slows to 2-3 seconds between pops, remove the pot from heat and carefully lift the lid to avoid steam.
  6. Pour the popcorn into a large mixing bowl, discarding any unpopped kernels.
  7. Drizzle 2 tablespoons of oil over the warm popcorn. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons everything bagel seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon onion powder, and optional black pepper evenly over the popcorn.
  8. Toss gently with a wooden spoon or spatula to coat every kernel evenly. If using Parmesan, sprinkle it in now and toss lightly.
  9. Let the popcorn rest for 5 minutes to absorb flavors and crisp up further before serving.

Notes

Use fresh popcorn kernels for best popping results. Shake the pot occasionally during popping to prevent burning. Season popcorn while warm to help seasoning stick. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a dry skillet if popcorn loses crispness.
