These crispy mini hot dog pigs in blankets with cheesy goodness are a quick, easy, and crowd-pleasing snack perfect for parties or casual get-togethers. The combination of flaky puff pastry, melty cheese, and savory mini hot dogs creates an irresistible bite-sized treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 mini hot dogs (beef, pork, or plant-based)
  • 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed but cold
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (sharp or mild)
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Unfold the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Cut each sheet into 1-inch wide strips (about 10 strips per sheet). Keep the pastry cold; refrigerate if it softens.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine shredded cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Dijon mustard. Mix well.
  4. Take a mini hot dog and spread a small amount of the cheese mixture along one side. Wrap a strip of puff pastry around it, pressing edges gently to seal.
  5. Place the wrapped hot dogs seam side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.
  6. Brush each pig in a blanket lightly with the beaten egg. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top if desired.
  7. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until puffed and golden brown. Watch closely near the end to prevent burning.
  8. Transfer to a cooling rack and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Keep the puff pastry cold to maintain flakiness. Seal edges well to prevent cheese leakage. Do not overcrowd the baking sheet to ensure even crisping. For gluten-free, use almond flour-based dough or gluten-free puff pastry. Can pan-fry as an alternative cooking method. Refrigerate assembled pigs in blankets for up to 24 hours before baking if needed.
