These dark chocolate spider web cookies are a Halloween treat with crispy edges, soft centers, and a rich dark chocolate flavor. Decorated with white chocolate webs and candy eyeballs, they are quick to make and perfect for parties or spooky movie nights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (175g) white chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening
  • 24–30 candy eyeballs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar together in a large bowl for about 3-4 minutes until light and fluffy. Scrape down the sides halfway through.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. Chill the dough for 15 minutes in the refrigerator.
  7. Scoop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are set but centers are still soft.
  9. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.
  10. While cookies cool, place white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  11. Transfer melted white chocolate to a small piping bag or zip-top bag and snip a tiny corner.
  12. Pipe spider webs: Pipe a small dot in the center of each cookie, then concentric circles around it. Drag a toothpick from the center outward through all circles to create the web effect. Wipe toothpick clean between cookies.
  13. Immediately press two candy eyeballs onto the white chocolate while still wet.
  14. Let white chocolate set completely before stacking or storing, about 20 minutes at room temperature or 10 minutes in the fridge.

Notes

Chill dough for 15 minutes to prevent spreading. Use a light hand with white chocolate for delicate webs. Work quickly as white chocolate sets fast. Practice toothpick drag on parchment first. Cookies taste better the next day. Store in airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Freeze undecorated cookies for up to 3 months.
