This easy apple cinnamon overnight oats recipe takes five minutes of prep, and you wake up to a breakfast that tastes like a treat. It’s the kind of recipe that stays with you because it solves the morning rush without sacrificing flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (90g) rolled oats
  • 1 cup (240ml) milk (any kind)
  • ½ cup (120g) Greek yogurt
  • 1 medium apple, diced (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Granny Smith)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) honey or maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds (optional)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Cook the apples: Dice the apple into small ½-inch cubes. Place in a small saucepan with 1 tablespoon water and 1 teaspoon cinnamon. Cook over medium heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and fragrant. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  2. Mix the wet ingredients: In a medium bowl or jar, whisk together milk, Greek yogurt, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  3. Add the dry ingredients: Stir in rolled oats, chia seeds (if using), and a pinch of salt. Mix until well combined and oats are submerged.
  4. Layer in the apples: Spoon half of the cooked apples into the bottom of jars. Pour oat mixture over them, then top with remaining apples. Gently stir once or twice.
  5. Refrigerate overnight: Seal jars and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight.
  6. Serve: In the morning, stir the oats. If too thick, add a splash of milk. Serve cold or microwave for 45-60 seconds for a warm breakfast. Top with extra cinnamon, honey, or chopped nuts.

Notes

Don’t skip cooking the apples—it prevents watery oats and hard apple pieces. Use the right oat-to-liquid ratio (1:1 oats to milk). Let oats rest at least 6 hours for best texture. Start with 1 tablespoon sweetener and adjust to taste. Make a big batch for the week, but add toppings just before serving.
