This crockpot peppermint hot chocolate is rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with a refreshing peppermint kick. It’s the easiest holiday treat you’ll make all season—just dump, stir, and let the slow cooker work its magic.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups whole milk (1.4 liters)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (240 ml)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (50 grams)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar (150 grams)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Optional toppings: mini marshmallows, crushed candy canes, whipped cream, chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt to break up any lumps.
  2. Pour the whole milk and heavy cream into a 6-quart slow cooker. Add the vanilla extract and peppermint extract. Stir to combine.
  3. Slowly pour the cocoa-sugar mixture into the milk while whisking continuously until no dry spots remain.
  4. Cover and cook on LOW for 2 hours. Do not cook on high. Stir halfway through.
  5. After 2 hours, taste and adjust sweetness or peppermint flavor if desired.
  6. Switch the slow cooker to the WARM setting for serving.
  7. Ladle into mugs and top with whipped cream, mini marshmallows, and crushed candy canes. Serve immediately.

Notes

For the smoothest hot chocolate, sift the cocoa powder before adding. Do not let the milk boil—if your crockpot runs hot, check after 90 minutes. The hot chocolate can be made a day ahead and reheated. Use a slow cooker liner for easy cleanup.
