  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds

  • 1 tablespoon sea salt or kosher salt (Diamond Crystal kosher salt recommended)
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Toast the sesame seeds: Heat a dry skillet over medium heat. Add 3 tablespoons of sesame seeds and stir constantly for 3-5 minutes until golden and fragrant. Remove immediately once they start popping to prevent burning.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: In a mixing bowl, add the toasted sesame seeds, 2 tablespoons poppy seeds, 1 tablespoon dried minced garlic, 1 tablespoon dried minced onion, 1 tablespoon sea salt, and 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper.
  3. Add optional smoked paprika: Sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika if desired for a smoky twist.
  4. Mix thoroughly: Use a spoon or small whisk to combine all ingredients evenly.
  5. Store properly: Transfer the seasoning blend into an airtight jar or container. Label with the date and let it rest at least an hour before first use to allow flavors to meld.
