Ingredients

Scale
  • Red Layer: 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 (3 oz) package cherry-flavored gelatin
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka or water for non-alcoholic version
  • White Layer: 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 (3 oz) package unflavored gelatin
  • ½ cup (120 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka or water
  • Blue Layer: 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 (3 oz) package blueberry-flavored gelatin (or grape for darker hue)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) cold vodka or water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Red Layer: Dissolve cherry gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water, stir for 2 minutes until dissolved. Add ½ cup cold vodka or water and mix well. Let cool at room temperature for 10 minutes.
  2. Pour the Red Layer: Pour red gelatin mixture into shot cups filling about one-third full (1 oz or 30 ml). Refrigerate for 30-40 minutes until firm to the touch but not fully set.
  3. Prepare the White Layer: Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over ½ cup cold water and let bloom for 5 minutes. Heat ½ cup boiling water and pour over gelatin, stir until dissolved.
  4. Add sweetened condensed milk and ½ cup cold vodka or water to gelatin mixture, stir gently. Let cool to room temperature for about 10 minutes.
  5. Pour the White Layer: Remove shot cups from fridge and gently pour white layer over red layer filling cups to about two-thirds full. Refrigerate for 30-40 minutes until set.
  6. Prepare the Blue Layer: Dissolve blueberry gelatin powder in 1 cup boiling water, stir for 2 minutes until dissolved. Add ½ cup cold vodka or water and mix well. Let cool to room temperature.
  7. Pour the Blue Layer: Carefully pour blue gelatin mixture on top of white layer filling cups to the rim. Chill for at least 2 hours until completely firm.
  8. Final Touches: Run a warm, damp cloth around the outside of cups to loosen jello shots for easy removal if desired. Serve chilled.

Notes

Let each gelatin layer cool to room temperature before pouring over the previous layer to prevent melting and mixing. Pour slowly over the back of a spoon or down the side of the cup for clean layers. Chill each layer until firm to the touch but not rock solid before adding the next. Use sweetened condensed milk for the white layer to achieve creamy opacity. For dairy-free white layer, substitute sweetened condensed coconut milk or coconut cream with unflavored gelatin. Alcohol-free versions can use sparkling water or lemon-lime soda instead of vodka. Prepare up to 3 days in advance and keep refrigerated. Avoid freezing to maintain texture.
