A quick and easy Halloween snack mix made with popcorn, pretzels, cereal, candy corn, and chocolate. Ready in just 10 minutes, this pantry-friendly recipe is perfect for last-minute parties and is endlessly customizable.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups popped popcorn (plain or lightly salted)
  • 2 cups pretzel twists (broken into bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 cup Chex cereal (rice or corn)
  • 1 cup candy corn
  • 1/2 cup roasted peanuts (optional)
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1/4 cup Halloween sprinkles (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prep your base ingredients (2 minutes): Pop your popcorn if you haven’t already—you need about 3 cups. Break the pretzels into bite-sized pieces if you’re using full-sized twists. Combine the popcorn, pretzels, Chex cereal, and peanuts (if using) in your large microwave-safe bowl. Give it a quick toss to distribute everything evenly.
  2. Toast the dry mix (1 minute): Pop the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir, then another 30 seconds. This step is optional but makes a huge difference—it gives the cereal and pretzels an extra crunch that holds up against the melted chocolate. The mix should feel warm to the touch but not hot. Set it aside while you work on the chocolate.
  3. Melt the white chocolate (2 minutes): In a small microwave-safe bowl, combine the white chocolate chips with 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring well between each, until smooth. White chocolate can be finicky—it seizes up if you overheat it. Stop microwaving when there are still a few lumps and stir until they melt. The mixture should be smooth and glossy.
  4. Melt the semi-sweet chocolate (2 minutes): In another small bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips with the remaining 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil. Same process—30-second intervals, stirring in between. Dark and semi-sweet chocolate are more forgiving than white chocolate, but don’t rush it. You want a smooth, pourable consistency.
  5. Combine and coat (2 minutes): Pour the melted white chocolate over the dry mix first. Use your rubber spatula to fold everything together gently but thoroughly. You want every piece to have a thin coating. Then drizzle the melted semi-sweet chocolate over the top and fold again. Don’t overmix—you want some streaks of dark and white chocolate, not a uniform brown mess. Add the candy corn now and fold gently a few more times.
  6. Spread and set (1 minute): Pour the mixture onto your prepared baking sheet. Spread it into an even layer—don’t press it down too much, you want some texture. Sprinkle the sea salt and Halloween sprinkles over the top while the chocolate is still wet. Let it sit at room temperature for about 15-20 minutes to set, or pop it in the fridge for 10 minutes if you’re in a hurry.
  7. Break and serve (0 minutes): Once the chocolate is set, break the mix into clusters. Don’t worry about making perfect pieces—the irregular chunks are part of the charm. I like to leave some bigger clusters and some smaller pieces so everyone can grab what they want.

Notes

Don’t skip the toasting step—it keeps the cereal crunchy for days. Work in layers with the chocolate for beautiful marbled streaks. Use room temperature candy corn to prevent the chocolate from seizing. Let the mix set completely before breaking to avoid a sticky mess. Double the batch if you’re smart—this stuff disappears fast.
