A low-effort, high-impact date night experience that makes you look like you tried way harder than you actually did. Ready in 15 minutes, this board is designed for two people with perfectly scaled portions that encourage sharing and grazing.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz Brie or Camembert (soft cheese)
  • 3 oz Aged Gouda or Manchego (hard cheese)
  • 2 oz Gorgonzola or fresh chèvre (blue or goat cheese)
  • 46 thin slices prosciutto
  • 46 thin slices salami or soppressata
  • 810 water crackers or thin crisps
  • 46 slices baguette, toasted
  • 1 small apple, sliced
  • A handful of red grapes
  • ¼ cup dried apricots or figs
  • ¼ cup almonds or walnuts
  • 2 tablespoons honey or fig jam
  • ¼ cup olives or cornichons

Instructions

  1. Prep Your Ingredients (5 minutes): Take the cheeses out of the refrigerator about 20 minutes before you start building the board. Slice the baguette into thin rounds and toast them lightly in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes, or until just golden. Slice the apple into thin wedges and toss them with a squeeze of lemon juice to keep them from turning brown. Rinse and dry the grapes.
  2. Place the Bowls (1 minute): Put your small bowls on the board first. Position them in different corners. Fill one with honey or fig jam, one with the olives or cornichons, and one with the nuts.
  3. Add the Cheeses (3 minutes): Place the cheeses around the board, spacing them out. Cut the hard cheese into thin slices or small cubes ahead of time. Leave the soft cheese whole or cut it into a few wedges.
  4. Layer the Meats (2 minutes): Fold or roll the prosciutto slices into loose ribbons and place them near one of the cheeses. Fold the salami slices in half, then half again, and fan them out in a small cluster.
  5. Fill in with Crackers and Bread (2 minutes): Arrange the crackers and toasted baguette slices in small clusters around the board, filling in the gaps between the cheese and meat.
  6. Add the Fruits and Nuts (2 minutes): Scatter the apple slices and grapes in small groups around the board. Tuck the dried apricots or figs into any remaining empty spaces. Sprinkle the nuts in a few small piles.
  7. Final Touches (1 minute): Drizzle a little honey over the Brie or Manchego. Place a small spoon in the honey bowl. Add a few fresh herbs like rosemary sprigs or edible flowers if you have them.

Notes

Let cheeses sit at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before serving for best flavor. Toss apple slices in lemon juice to prevent browning. For a vegetarian version, skip the meats and double up on cheese, adding roasted red peppers, marinated artichoke hearts, and hummus. For a spicy twist, add hot honey and spicy salami like ‘nduja.
